MIRADRY (SHORT MICROWAVES) | DR. MOLINARI, PARIS.

Traitements de la transpiration excessive ou hyperhydrose des aisselles, des mains, des pieds, miradry et toxine botulique

What is MiraDry used for?
| Dr. Molinari, Paris

Perspiration in general, and underarm perspiration in particular, is produced by sweat glands located in the dermis. These sweat glands help regulate body temperature.

When they function excessively, they produce more sweat than is necessary for this regulation, leading to dampness and unpleasant odors.

When this sweating is excessive, we speak of hyperhydrosis (axillary, for armpits).

To combat this extremely embarrassing and disabling daily perspiration, several treatments can be proposed:

  • Botulinum toxin injections
  • or a more definitive treatment available since 2015: MiraDry.

MiraDry: a safe and efficient treatment
| Dr. Molinari, Paris

The Miradry treatment has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), proving not only its efficacy (approval obtained through clinical studies designed to demonstrate the safe and beneficial effects of MiraDry), but also its effectiveness in reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

MiraDry sends short microwaves to the armpits, targeting the sweat glands, which are rich in water, heating them and causing their permanent destruction by thermolysis.

The MiraDry treatment is performed under local anesthesia and does not involve social eviction.

The effect of the MiraDry treatment on sweating is almost immediate. It is permanent. In about 20% of cases, for the most difficult cases (severe axillary hyperhydrosis), a second session may be required to achieve a full effect.

What are the side effects of the MiraDry treatment?
| Dr. Molinari, Paris

The destruction of the underarm sweat glands does not affect the body’s temperature regulation: MiraDry targets and destroys only about 2% of all the sweat glands in the body.

What’s more, there is no transfer of perspiration to other areas: hands, feet, torso, etc. The nervous system is not affected in any way!

There are few side effects with this treatment. In the days that follow, there may be some pain and moderate redness, but these will disappear quickly.

It should be noted, however, that underarms treated with MiraDry often experience partial and permanent hair loss.

So far, only the armpits can be treated with MiraDry, although studies on the treatment of other areas (such as the hands) are eagerly awaited.
