Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in large quantities in the body. In the skin, hyaluronic acid acts as a support tissue for the dermis, providing tone and suppleness.
As we age, the presence of hyaluronic acid in the dermis begins to diminish and it can no longer fill the spaces between the different skin fibers: the inevitable result is the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Injections of dermal fillers in the face or hands are used to correct the loss of volume and the deepening of wrinkles associated with physiological aging.
These hyaluronic acid corrections can be applied to deep wrinkles on the forehead or between the eyebrows (the famous frown lines) or, more commonly, to the lower two-thirds of the face: nasolabial folds, cheekbones, cheeks, temples, and dark circles.
These products can also be used to plump the lips.
On the hands, hyaluronic acid can be used to improve skin atrophy on the back of the hands, which is often very pronounced, especially regarding women over the age of 60, and is a very visible sign of aging.
Hyaluronic acid treatments restore skin tone and natural harmony to the face and hands without the need for more invasive surgical treatment protocols.
There are so many dermal fillers on the market that it can be difficult for patients to choose between them.
Hyaluronic acid is the most commonly used because it is well tolerated and safe.
However, other types of dermal fillers than hyaluronic acid are also used, depending on the indications, and the targeted area. The expertise of the dermatologist plays a key role in defining the adequate products to be used in any situation.
Your doctor will be able to advise you on the benefits of each product.
Hyaluronic acid injections are performed in the office of Dr. Molinari, in Paris.
The injections are painless and usually last only a few minutes.
In most cases, anesthesia is not required. Immediately after the injection, a moderate and transient reddening of the injection sites is usually observed.
As with any medical treatment, hyaluronic acid injections can cause various inconveniences, most of which are temporary.
Rarely, bruising and/or edema may occur after the injections. These disappear within a few days and have no medium-term consequences.
Post-injection inflammatory reactions of the granuloma type do occur, but remain exceptional. They can be treated.
The results of the injections are obtained within two weeks after the procedure and are maintained for nine months to two years, depending on the product used.
