Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox®, is a protein that has been used in aesthetic medicine and dermatology for more than 15 years. It works by blocking the contraction of the muscle into which it is injected to eliminate wrinkles.
Botox® is a preventive treatment against aging and, more generally, against wrinkles, since it relaxes the facial muscles responsible for the appearance of more or less deep wrinkles through long-term contraction. (Ex: frown lines…)
BOTOX® is the best treatment for expression wrinkles, i.e. wrinkles in the upper third of the face:
Botulinum toxin (Botox®) allows muscles to relax. It inhibits reflex contractions of the forehead, glabella, or crow’s feet that occur more frequently with age and give the face an aged or severe appearance.
The goal is not to block voluntary muscle contractions and create a frozen look: the face retains its natural appearance.
Botox® is not a dermal filler; it is not injected into wrinkles, but into the muscle responsible for deepening them.
The most common side effect of Botox® injections is hematoma around the injection site. This complication occurs in a minority of cases. Occasionally, localized edema, especially around the eyelids, may occur and resolve within a few days.
More rarely, the product may spread to neighboring muscle groups, causing temporary asymmetry of facial contraction or a drooping eyelid or forehead. These effects always disappear within a few weeks, spontaneously and without after-effects.
Botox® injections are painless and last only a few minutes. Intensive exercise should be avoided for two hours after the injection.
Dr. Molinari, a dermatologist specializing in aesthetic medicine, is committed to providing his patients with the safest, most pain-free treatments that exist and injects botulinum toxin using a brand new motorized injection pen.
According to recent clinical studies, the Juvapen motorized pen reduces pain by approximately 40%. It limits the risk of unwanted diffusion of the toxin and therefore the risk of side effects. It greatly increases the precision of the treatment for the best possible results.
The treatment takes effect about a week after the injection and lasts between four and six months.
The forehead, glabella, and crow’s feet appear smoother, and wrinkles are less deepened.
Botox® injections may be combined with the injection of fillers such as hyaluronic acid, Ellansé or Radiesse to correct deep forehead or glabellar lines or to restore volume to the lower two-thirds of the face.
